Analytics Function Review
An external, unbiased assessment of the analytics function at an institution or system
A national perspective on data-informed decision-making culture
Knowledgeable expert opinions on workable collaborative analytics strategies
“Recent innovations in data and technology have created an information tsunami that not only holds great promise but also presents myriad challenges. While there is more data – big and small, structured and unstructured – than ever before, sifting through it to create insight that facilitates action has grown more difficult as accountability and cost pressures have magnified demands for analysis. Many leaders are struggling to juggle this growing sea of demands… Some are throwing up their hands because there can be too much data to know where to start, and the barriers to entry are seemingly too high, costly, and risky. Even so, the tide cannot be stemmed; the analytics revolution is here to stay.”
The Analytics Revolution in Higher Education (2018)
In this setting of increased data and analytics demands, it is important for higher education institutions and systems to intentionally plan their structures and processes for successful use of analytics. The higher education community is considering questions such as: How are higher education institutions and systems responding to the analytics revolution? How can presidents engage in more data-informed decision-making and serve as champions of an integrated analytics function at their institution? How can senior leaders collaboratively enhance the analytics capacity of their institution or system?
With its Analytics Function Review, NCHEMS provides an institution or system an external, unbiased assessment of its analytics function, including reviewing how core units like institutional research (IR), information technology (IT), and business and finance collaborate to ensure integration of analytics across the institution or system and how a data-informed decision-making culture can be leveraged to enhance student success. With its national perspective and extensive experience, NCHEMS provides guidance to college presidents and senior leadership on ways to enhance its analytics capabilities and culture of inquiry. NCHEMS will work with individual institutions or systems to personalize the scope of the review in order to provide as inclusive perspective as possible for the enhancement of the analytics function in each, unique setting.
