Press Release Dennis Jones Resignation

Home Press Release Dennis Jones Resignation

After serving 30 years as President of the National Center for Higher Education Management Systems (NCHEMS), Dennis P. Jones will resign his position as of September 30, 2015. As a member of the staff since 1969 and President since 1985, Mr. Jones has been a major leader in the areas of higher education planning, management systems, finance and policy development. His work with state leaders is renowned in areas such as developing public agendas to guide state higher education policymaking, linking higher education with states’ workforce and economic development needs and financing, budgeting and resource allocation methodologies for use at both state and institutional levels. Over his many years at NCHEMS he has provided his expertise to leaders in the higher education community, including hundreds of colleges and universities, state and national governments, regional and national organizations and philanthropic organizations.

As President, Mr. Jones is also widely recognized for his contributions to the development of national standard definitions and the organizing principles for the collection, reporting and exchange of information across all levels of postsecondary education. These data categories and definitions have become known as the national standards.

Earl Hale, Chairman of the NCHEMS Board of Directors, noted that, “If you want to measure the contributions Dennis has made since he assumed the helm in 1985, simply look at the aggregated research, writing and reports that have charted the way to forward-looking, sometimes controversial policy analyses and recommendations over the years. That is the measure of the man and the impact of the organization and the staff he attracted. We are lucky to have had him as our leader and we look forward to our continued relationship with him as he assumes his new role at NCHEMS.”

Mr. Jones will continue his work in improving higher education policy as President Emeritus and Senior Consultant at NCHEMS. Peter Ewell, currently Vice President of NCHEMS, will assume the presidency for a one-year period beginning October 1.

The National Center for Higher Education Management Systems (NCHEMS) is a nonprofit research and development center in Boulder, Colorado founded in 1968 to improve strategic decision making in institutions and agencies of higher education in the US and abroad.
